As our world ends, what will come of the digital world? Will it die with us? Is the atrophy of our world mirrored by that of the digital world? Analog and digital media are not at odds, but they are controlled by same power structures.
No-Input is a genre I have recently discovered and fell in love with. Being a classically-trained musician, I feel so much more freedom playing an instrument that only works when you stop trying to control it. In that way, it is impossible to play this instrument; rather, you play with it. You cannot wield it.
I have chosen to make this an audiovisual piece, showing my DAW as the music plays in response to a general lack of consent in the noise community. Historically, noise and industrial music has had the tendency to assert itself as an edgy, jarring, and gatekept genre. By showing my DAW, I am letting my audience know what is to come. There are no jump-scares, no intentional triggers. By incorporating drums, field recordings, and the legendary vocal fry from Ol’ Dirty Bastard, I attempt to use no-input music as a sound bridge to invite other musicians into the tenderness and creativity in noise. My approach is intended to be whimsical, to avoid the noise pitfall of taking my work too seriously.
This is a meditation on exploration, especially in a space that fascinates and terrifies me. All audio and video was recorded at this location and mixed together.
